A tale of two armies. . . . . January 12, 2007

Tonight was our annual Humphrey-Wychopen Christmas together. This year it was a little different. The parents gathered at our house while the kids were all at the Humphrey’s. It made things easier on Dad. Believe it or not, we are actually mature enough to be in the same house without our parents. We didn’t even kill anyone, injure ourselves or burn the house down. Very impressive if I do say so myself!!!! *smile*

Before I post pictures of tonight’s activities (patience Mel dear….) you must needs hear a little story.

Now gather round and I’ll tell you a tale………………..Once upon a time there were four little girls and four little boys who were very good friends and loved to play together for hours and hours. There was a little problem however. The girls were good friends with the girls and the boys with the boys. But the girls and the boys together did not get along very well. They fought…..they fought all the time. In fact, they were virtual enemies.

Now the girls formed an army and the boys formed an army. The boys attacked the girls and the girls in turn screamed and then attacked back. They played mean tricks, they had gum ball fights, rubber band wars, stole one another’s possessions, intercepted crucial letters and broke the secret codes in which the crucial letters were so carefully written, and worst of all, tore down the enemy’s forts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At one point during this whole affair, both armies decided they need a name. Something to call themselves….just to be more official you know……so the guys came up with their very official and manly army name. The name was: “3 Mim Wolf Pack”. Confused??? Allow me to explain……They came up with their name based on these things:

1) “3″ was because there were 3 initial guys in this fine army. The fourth came along later……..

2) Mim was after “Fort Mim” from their favorite movie back in those days “Davie Crockett”.

3) “Wolf Pack” was for their favorite Lego set called “Wolf Pack”.

So the Mims they were….and are to this very day.

The girl’s name and how it came to be is much simpler to explain. After talking about all the possible names for hours and hours (Being female and all) my Dad came up with a great and simple solution. Call yourselves the “KERKS” he said. The letters for each of your first initials. Katie/Erin/Rachel/Katelin. Ahhhhhhh, it was perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, we were and are the KERKS .Very practical, yet fun and of course very confusing to any outsiders who might see the name.

So for 13 years now we have remained the KERKS and the Mims……….Tried and true. *smile*

Now, how does this story end you ask?? Well, like all wonderful tales, this one has a very good and happy ending. The little girls and the little boys grew up……not fully you understand, just mostly. We will probably never be fully grown, or at least I hope not!!!!! However, we are grown enough to now love each very much. Each of us, the boys and the girls……and everything in between. The feud has since ended and we press on toward the same goal: to have lots of fun and be as ridiculous as we can. Mims and KERKS in perfect harmony. What a beautiful sight………

So, we made shirts for the Humphreys for Christmas this year with our very official army names on each perspective shirt. We have become so official…..

Ok, NOW I can post the pictures from tonight. Mims and KERKS in their formal, army attire……accomplishing our goal: having fun and being as ridiculous as we can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
