A Thanksgiving to Remember. . . November 25, 2007
Sigh. My family packed up and went home today. Although the quiet is somewhat nice, I sure do miss them. I had forgotten how good it was to have everyone here and how much fun we have just being together. Let’s not let that much time go by again without seeing each other guys!!!!!
I am a truly blessed girl to have such a wonderful family who loves and laughs and teases and leaves me with some of the best memories ever to look back on!!!! Thank you Lord!! *smile*
It was a very good Thanksgiving!!!! Definitely going down in the history books!!! I copied this from Mama’s blog because I thought it was so well written and special….(BTW, it is a quilt blog but if you’d like to stop by and visit or drop a note you can!!! http://www.alattequilts.blogspot.com/)

I would like to say that this year is going to be the best Thanksgiving we’ve enjoyed as a family in quite a while! There are just a few family members missing this year, but most of us are home. There are very few families who can say, “We truly love and enjoy each other’s company.” Each one is a special blessing….
1. my husband, the resident preacher, who is an example to all of us of patience and endurance….running the race daily, and planting himself deeper and deeper within my heart, a man I dearly love and respect more than words can say…..
2. my brother who cares for us - takes care of us, even the day before Thanksgiving (fixing some light fixtures and the dishwasher without a complaint)
3. my sister who has become a wonderful friend, wife and mother to be, who will never change who she is for anyone, but has grown so much, we barely recognize her!
4. my mother who serves the family selflessly, day after day, a woman who gives the best hugs and doesn’t mind fixing each family member their own favorite dish!
5. my sister in law who cracks us up and accepts us as a part of her family (quirks and all), and even puts up with my brother….the only one who could handle the job
6. my brother in law who is quiet, takes such good care of my sister and is the father to be of our newest family memeber!, and even though he thinks we’re too loud, hangs out with us and is our resident go to man….
7. my children who are adults that I am proud to call my friends, who make their mother smile at their individuality as well as their similarities….each one different, but yet the same, who live their Christianity in serving others and loving their neighbors, and inherited their grandmother’s work ethic! And one child who is still growing and changing, who is the sweetest little girl in the world.
8. my niece and nephews who were babies we held in our arms and have watched them grow into adults, children always (in our eyes) but yet great men and a great woman who loves family….and are single by the way! Call 1-800-FIND THEM A SPOUSE for more info. (right Alan???)
9. my mother in law who has taken such good care of the men in her life, leaving me a wonderful example to follow as I care for her son!
These are the wonderful people that I call family and friends. So, to you I say, I am thankful for each of you and the place you have in my heart. May the Lord bless us with another year together and may He continue to draw us closer to each other (and here’s a prayer that our family grows by leaps and bounds!!!! Hint, hint Alan, Erin, Kari, Josh, and Brittany!!!).

Me: Was I dreaming or did someone whisper “Happy Thanksgiving†in my ear at an ungodly hour this morning?
Brit: You weren’t dreaming. I did.
Me: You almost got hit.
Brit: How’s that for gratitude??
Me: Oh I’m grateful. Especially when people let me sleep!!!!!!!! *jabs Brittany in the ribs….angelic smile*

“This is so scary. The older we get, the more alike we get!!!!!!!”

Me: Mamaw, you are so blessed!!!!
Grandma Jo: Oh I know!!!
Me: Oh I don’t know if you do…just look at the beautiful, loving, talented and incredible Grandchildren you have!!!
Me: Aren’t you so glad we bless you???
Grandma Jo: *rolling eyes, shaking head* Oh, soooooooooo glad!!! And very glad that you got it all from ME!!!!!!
All: LOL

Josh: No, normally it’s worse….she’s being good today!!!

Alan: Josh, would you like some roll with that butter man??
Josh: Alan, would you like some knuckle with this fist??
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Me: So, I wonder….who’s the “village idiot†in our family??
The rest of the table: Uhhhhh…..(A few people point to Joseph.)
Josh: Oh there are so many options all around us.
Alan: And we just get to pick one??
Me: Well, ok….so maybe our family is full village idiots and we only have one smart one……and that’d be Coo Coo…
Joseph: No, Uncle Stephen…
Me: No, Coo Coo…
Joseph: Uncle Stephen married into this family…
Me: Obviously NOT a smart man….
Joseph: Yeah…so Coo Coo, definitely.

Mama: Y’all are sitting over there at the kid table…
Me: Wait, do we actually have a kid table this year??
Mama: Well….a kid….adult….ish table.
Alan: Kid table?? Kid table….
Mama: I know, we technically only have one kid this year….
Alan: Yeeeeeah, Joseph!!!
Me: Nooo, Sarah!!
Alan: Uhhh, no….Joseph
(Joseph: cue dumb thing to say…Sarah: having an adult conversation with Grandma Joyce.)
Me: *looks at Alan* Yeah….you were right, Joseph

We actually remembered the cranberry sauce this year, a complete break with tradition. Rather sad. It wasn’t the same without getting half way through the meal and hearing, “We forgot the cranberry sauce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!†and then watching 6 people get up to get it!!!
Still, what a Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *smile* Enjoy the pictures, we took lots!!!
