“Life ain’t always beautiful, sometimes it’s just plain hard. Life ain’t always beautiful, but it’s a beautiful ride…what a beautiful ride.”

Sometimes life is ironic, sometimes odd. Last Friday I picked up my friend Abby’s little ones because she’s been sick and had Dr. appointments and tests that day. From there I went to Becky’s house where I keep her little ones twice a week and sometimes in between. *smile* When I got there she greeted me with the news that she was on her way to the hospital. Her water broke and she was going into early labor at 27 weeks.

With both Mommies now facing some pretty challenging health issues I loaded my crew up and headed for the Children’s Museum to meet with some other friends and their charges while trying *not* to worry about these gals. So much for that. Worrying just comes with it I guess.

So, in one very ironically.odd.and.somewhat.sad.scary.emotional.bothersome.worryish day,  I realized that six children, (3 from Becky, 3 from Abby. 3 boys, 3 girls. 3 blonds, 3 brunettes.) under the age of five were going to need looking after.

Saddle up girl, it’s time to ride….and thus began the adventure. Here are some things you might hear if YOU were ME. *smile* But first, ages. Will (5) - Russ (4) - Aubrey (3) - Jake (3)

*Picked up Russ and got everyone loaded up, buckled in and started driving. Russ turns around toward Will…*

Russ: “Will!! GREAT NEWS!! We’re finally in our new house!”

Will: “No, we’re in the car.”

Russ: “NO! We aren’t in it now!!! I meant as in, we MOVED into our new house!!”

Will: “Ohhhh. That IS great news!!”

*Hears Russ counting from the back seat*

Russ: “WHOA!!!!! There’s a lot of people in this car!!!!!!! Six little peoples and one Miss Erin!!!!!!”

*   *   *   *   *

*In the car*

Me: “Ok gang, what do you want from Sonic?”

Russ: “I’ll have a Cherry Limeade. It’s the best thing they make.”

Will: “I’ll have one of those too.”

Aubrey: “I want cherries!!!!!”

Me: “Jake??”

Jacob: “I’ll have whatever you’re having.”

*In the car*

Me: Ok Will, when we get there you unbuckle everyone on the back row and I’ll come help y’all get out. Russ, you unbuckle the girls on the middle row. Ok?”

Will: “Ok. Miss Erin? Does that mean that I’m in charge of the back row?”

Me: “Sure. You can be in charge of the back row.”

Russ: “Well if he’s in charge of the back row that means I’m in charge of the middle row.”

Me: “Yes Russ, you be in charge of the middle row.”

* “Polite discussion” breaks out between Aubrey and Jacob, occupiers of the back row.*

Will: “Excuse me, I’m in charge of the back row and you two are bickering.”

*   *   *   *   *

*Over heard from the kitchen while cooking dinner*

Russ: “Miss Erin takes care of us.”

Will: “Well, she takes care of us too.”

Russ: “She took care of us longer.”

Will: “Nu-uh.”

Russ: “Uh-huh.”

Will: “How old are you?”

Russ: “Four.”

Will: “Well I’m five. I’m older, so she took care of me longer.”

Russ: “I’ll be five on my next birthday.”

Will: “That doesn’t mean she took care of you longer. I’m still older.”

Russ: “Yeah. But I’ll be older when I’m five.”

Will: “When you’re five I’ll be six.”

Russ: “I’ll be six when I’m six.”

Will: “That’s true.”

Gotta love it!!!!
